My mother was admitted for pneumonia. She also had a very sore knee from a partial contracture and found it very painful when she was moved. Chris was very compassionate and receptive as I shared best care for her communication and mobility needs. She is hard of hearing and has reduced vision from her left eye, so approaching her from the right side the best way to communicate with her. With each interaction with her he remembered this and developed a good relationship with her. During shift change he shared this with the on-coming nurse so she could also communicate better with my mom and keep her comfortable.
Not only did he show extra concern for her comfort he did for me as well. He made sure I had the information I needed about her and that I didn't have any needs or concerns. I truly believe that because of the extra care and concern he showed my mother she responded better to her treatment. After 4 nights at Eskenazi she was released to rehab.
Once she was settled in there she asked when that nice young man was going to come take care of her. When I explained he worked at the hospital and not the rehab center she frowned and made a pouty face. I nominate Chris Ikemire for the exceptional care he provided my mother! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
