Ciara Flowers is the light of our unit. She is fairly new to the Baptist system but has taken on such an important role on our floor. She has become our wound care champion but she is so much more than just that. She has adapted a unique way of communicating with others and makes everyone laugh. Even the surrliest of patients can't resist her demenour and charm. She consistently has a positive relationship with everyone she works with. Doctors appreciate her knowledge and ability to collaborate with all members of the team. Along with coming up with a trademark song to represent her passion for wound care she has also presented many new ideas on the unit and at several different councils throughout the system. Everyone knows that when Ciara is working the day will be better and brighter because she is here. She is currently working with the wound care nurses and physicians to lower our pressure ulcers and has had great success in recruiting other unit staff in her project. She is a natural born leader and we are very lucky to have her as a member of our team.

Ciara has made a tremendous impact on the spirit of the unit as well as on the care of CVICU patients. She is positive and cheerful throughout the shift to everyone she encounters: patients, visitors, staff and physicians. She never meets a stranger! Her focus is providing the best care for her patients. Whether convincing a reluctant patient that he can walk after heart surgery or teaching the patient and caregivers how to care for themselves at discharge, Ciara is a passionate encourager. Her patients love her and she loves them!

Ciara is the team lead for the unit's HAPU PI team. She has immersed herself in learning about pressure ulcers and how to prevent them. As the leader of the HAPU team, Ciara shares her new-found knowledge with the members of the team and other staff. Ciara has joined ExCEL and demonstrates on a daily basis what it means to EXCEL in nursing practice. She works closely with nursing staff, ancillary personnel, other disciplines and physicians to provide the best patient care possible.
