Corbin arrived in the unit after a traumatic night for my mom. The hospitalist popped in and said, "Things are looking better and you will move upstairs today," and then he left! From my point of view, we had no idea what was actually "better".
Corbin recognized my anxiety and my mom's total confusion and immediately started noting my concerns and questions and took them to the Doctor. She also explained test results to me in a way that I could understand. When issues came up with my mom's heart rate, she got an order for a STAT EKG. When the tech did not arrive, she went and got the machine and got help to get it set up and got the EKG done. This helped diagnose new issues before they became life-threatening. She has great attention to detail and radiates kind, friendly, compassionate care.
When my mom had been stuck for a new IV over 10 times, they called for a midline catheter. My mom was very anxious about getting the new line and when the PICC team showed up, Corbin pulled up a chair and told my mom, "We're going to talk about my dogs." She diverted her attention and had her talking about dogs and family and even showed her photos from her phone. Mom did not even know the IV line had been inserted! Corbin went way over and above what is required for care. Her loving, compassionate, cheerful manner changed mom's attitude for the remainder of her stay in the ICU. Thank you, Corbin!
