While the Mother/Baby Department in the hospital is usually the happiest place one can be, sometimes it can also be the saddest. Sad things happen when we don't expect them or would think the outcome is going to be different.
Recently, we had a patient present to the hospital and would experience one of these unexpected, sad events. This process lasted over a 3-day period. One of our Mother/Baby nurses, Corey Parker, was this patient's nurse on the first day she arrived. At this point, a bond was formed between the distraught mother and the nurse. Realizing Day 2 was to be a very hard day for the patient, Corey requested to be allowed to come in on her day off to provide care and support for the patient and her family. Doing this, Corey was able to bond and provide one-on-one support for the patient's entire stay.
At discharge, the family recognized and expressed their gratitude for the care and help during their difficult time. Corey recognized the emotional needs as well as the physical support and went above and beyond her shift to provide this exceptional care during this period.
