Cristina Carillo, RN came to my rescue when I received a transfer patient from Conroe. The patient was Spanish-speaking only, 28 weeks, pre-term labor whose baby had multiple abnormalities. The patient arrived scared and alone. Although Cristina had two other patients, she came quickly to our room and assisted to get the patient's care under way. The patient was immediately more relaxed and so comforted by Cristina's wonderful bedside manner. The patient had a c-section two hours after arrival and her husband had not yet made it to the hospital. Cristina held her hand throughout the surgery and explained what was happening. She came to the recovery room with us and assisted with all the translations. She even went to see the patient the next day! Without Cristina the patient would not have had such great support in a language she could understand and with so much empathy. She made a difficult situation so much better for both the patient and myself!"
