I have so many great things to say about Cynthia and her growth as a nurse since becoming a part of our team just over a year ago, but for the sake of space, I'll try to keep it concise. Not only does Cynthia exhibit a great work ethic, attention to detail, and teamwork, but she's also very compassionate towards her patients and families, something I feel is exceptionally important working in the field that we do.
One special moment I would like to recognize Cynthia for is coming into the hospital to spend the evening with one of our patients who had been terminally weaned from his ventilator and placed on comfort measures earlier that day. This patient was someone we all knew too well. We had a love/hate relationship like with most frequent fliers, but he was a part of our unit family, and we were his.
Cynthia took it upon herself to come in on her personal time to sit with him during his final hours so he wouldn't be alone if he were to pass during a busy night shift. He passed the next day comfortably and surrounded by many nurses and staff of the ICU/PCU who loved him. Cynthia's act of selfless compassion is what nursing is about and shouldn't go unnoticed.
