Having a child in the NICU is one of the most emotional, heartbreaking things. Dana showed care and compassion after finding out about a breakdown I had about being discharged when she came to my room and sat and talked with me for about 30 minutes. She answered all my questions, addressed all my concerns and got me answers I felt like I still needed. It was amazing to have her care for me as much as she did my son.
Dana had him the first few days he was in the NICU and always made sure to explain to me the things she was doing before she did them. She had a nursing student at the time so she would make sure to go back and recheck her work as well as explain the things she was doing for him. When he needed a new IV and she could see that I was upset, she sat with me, gave me hugs and talked to me about my worries and fears.
Dana really helped to make the transition a much easier and smoother change. I was confident in going home and having to leave my son here because of her care and support.
Dana is very much a team player. She is constantly stepping in to help others in the unit, answer questions for all parents. She goes above and beyond her job title to make families comfortable and feel safe with the situation in the NICU. She is very knowledgeable about what she does. She explains things at a parent level so we understand, but still stays professional. I think if my son had any other nurse in his first few days in the NICU, the transition wouldn't have been so easy.
Thank you Dana, from the bottom of my heart.
