My 3 year old son was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on his brain stem. We were told that he would need to have radiation every day for 6 weeks or 30 treatments. We nervously reported to the Radiation Oncology clinic bright and early and met Nurse Debbie. She had a warm smile that helped us relax. She explained everything that she was doing and what would happen when we went down to the Radiation room. As we got into the daily routine, my son looked forward to waving to the fish, pushing the button for the door, seeing Debbie and helping her flush his port or "tubie" as he called it. Through our 30 treatments, Debbie was there for all but one. Her consistency made us all feel very comfortable.

On my son's last day, my 10-year-old son also decided to come along. She took him aside - explained everything that was going to happen and told him that if at any time he had a question, to just ask or if he got scared he could leave the room and she'd come talk to him. She truly exemplifies all the qualities of an extraordinary nurse.
