We had a patient in our FamilyCARE Center Women’s Services Clinic who had the unfortunate experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer during her pregnancy. As she was undergoing treatment for her cancer, she became pregnant again - with twins! She was very ill during her pregnancy and afterward because of her cancer treatment. Denise supported this patient, not only providing excellent nursing care during her pregnancy and delivery, but also following the birth of the twins. Denise drives her to her outpatient appointments, and continues to baby sit her children, even to the point of keeping the babies overnight in her own home so this patient can get some rest and have recovery time for healing. Denise lavishes this special patient with all the love embodied by an excellent nurse. However, there is more to the story... Denise is herself a cancer survivor. She is the busy working mother of two children, a tireless volunteer for the Susan G. Komen organization and an angel for this patient and her children. Denise is a wonderful example of what a nurse can be!
