I am nominating Diane Wolff for her relentless efforts in working the Minor procedure department. She is always eager to help out in a pinch. On several occasions, Diane has come in, on her day off, to assist with a new procedure or to help her colleagues in the department. She is one member of a small team of nurses trained to perform elective phlebotomy.
There was a last minute add case scheduled for the next day. It was Diane's scheduled day off, and she had prior arrangements to take her father to his doctor for an appointment. Diane is so caring for her patients, as if they are her own family. She made arrangements and came in to do the procedure. In addition to coming in on her day off, she also trained another nurse to help with future procedures. She took care of this patient in her usual calm and smiling demeanor. The patient was very pleased to get the procedure scheduled and performed within 24hrs.
Diane works collaboratively with the nurses throughout surgical services and the inpatient units. In another instance, she eagerly volunteered to stay one Friday evening to insert a PICC line on a nursing home patient who needed IV access for antibiotic therapy. Diane and a colleague agreed to wait for the patient's arrival at NMC for the procedure. PICC line insertions require two nurses. Diane spoke with her colleague and made arrangements for the procedure to be completed after regular work hours.
I was so impressed with the dedication and the commitment of the team. Ultimately the nursing home made other arrangements for their patients. It was still very inspiring to note, that Diane and many of the nurse at NMC truly put their patients at the top of their list, in delivering topnotch care.
Diane and the team always display professional behaviors consistent with our PRIDE values.
