Dina LaLicata, BSN, RN, Care Management, UPMC St. Margaret, was nominated for the DAISY Award by a colleague for her continuing support during a very difficult time and for going above and beyond her duties as a nurse and friend.
Dina supported her co-worker and co-worker’s family when their daughter was diagnosed and hospitalized for 26 days due to a severe disease. During the first two weeks in the hospital, the young girl was very catatonic and was unable to care for herself. Dina frequently went to the hospital to help bathe and dress her co-worker’s daughter. On days that she was unable to go to the hospital, she would call to check on the girl and family, reassuring that everything was going to be okay. She also provided support by coordinating meals with other co-workers ensuring that the family had a warm meal to eat since so much of their time was spent at the hospital. She continues to stand by the family as their daughter recovers from her illness.
Dina truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award and is honored for her compassionate care and empathy.
