During my patient rounds today I checked in with one of our patients who shared with me that she had her favorite nurses. She mentioned three nurses who she connected with and who helped her feel comfortable, and were very hard workers. The patient’s eyes lit up and then tears came as she recalled one nurse who stood out for her that was especially there for her not just for the skill but with compassion. She said:
“I was having emotional day yesterday. Donna took time out of her busy day to sit with me. She shared a little about herself and some of the choices she made that were not the best and this was important to me. It was important for me to hear a little about her. As she sat next to me and listened to me she started to smile and this made me smile and start to laugh. I really needed that!”
The patient expressed great appreciation if Donna could be recognized for her compassionate care and the way she helped this patient have a “better day”.
Donna is very positive and proactive in her care. She is a hard worker. She is very conscious of patient privacy and treats patients and staff with respect. She has a good sense of teamwork. She treats her patients with kindness.
