Everyday women come to the Breast Center for what can be just routine screening, yet for many it is a day they will never forget. For some it is the journey they never signed up to start. It is only made bearable by the impact that the people that work here make. As the Patient Care Navigator for the Breast Center, Donna is one of those people that have made an impact. How do you thank the people that have helped save your life and improved your health? What was the difference?

For one patient it was just genuine caring, empathy and dedication. Donna does this so naturally. Not knowing with who, or when she will make a difference in peoples lives, as it is part of her. Donna has been there when patients have needed her most. She offers words of encouragement when she see fear in the eyes. For when treating the patient, despite the disease, you always win.

An unknown author writes: What is the definition of a great nurse? To go above and beyond the call of duty. The first to work and the last to leave. The heart and soul of caring. A unique soul who will pass through your life for a minute and impact it for an eternity. An empowered individual whom you may meet for a short period of time, but who will put you and yours above theirs.

Empathy-communication-intuition-critical thinking-coordination of service-patience- dedication. These are the qualities of a great nurse and these can be easily seen in Donna and the team in the Breast Center. The staff in the Breast Center is a special breed as they get up in the morning to go to work with one purpose: to care!

Congratulations Donna, thank you for the commitment to the patients and to the team!
