A patient presented to the Cedar Park Regional Emergency Center (CPREC) at Leander complaining of a sore throat. The ED physician (Dr. Lindsey Lawrence) and the ED RNs (Eric Bunch and Kevin Baskin) immediately started to care for this patient. The patient quickly became critical.
Throughout the entire event, the nursing coordinator, Lorraine Flatt, was on the phone with the ED Nursing Director, Victoria Upton, in the main ED, assisted by the House Supervisor Valerie Goll. Val was on the phone with the critical care intensivist, Dr. Said Soubra. He and Vickie drove over to CPREC and were followed by Alan Mintz (CCU nursing director) and James Heater (ED tech). On arrival, they all immediately jumped in to assist the staff at CPREC and the EMS crew.
The entire staff at CPREC and EMS did a great job. But what impressed me most was the staff that came over from the main hospital without any hesitation. Alan, James, Victoria and Dr. Soubra did not have to come to CPREC to help but they did. They did what was right for their team members and the patient's family, but most of all, they did what was right for this patient. They remind me of why I love this hospital and why I am so proud to say that these people are my work family. Kudos to all involved and my eternal gratitude to those who go above and beyond to help others.
