Kitty went above and beyond in demonstrating her empathy and compassion. She had a young patient admitted with a terminal illness; as she got to know him, she realized he had minimal support and researched a foundation that helped people with his rare condition. In addition, he confided that the only clothes he had were soiled. She took his clothing home and had them laundered and pressed and collected money to buy him a new shirt. In doing this, she ensured he was able to go home for his last few weeks of life clean and dignified. This was something that he expressed as being a concern to him. Although she could not change his ultimate prognosis, she was able to bring him comfort and support.

Note:

This gentleman had Marfan Syndrome, end stage cardiomyopathy, and was almost 7 feet tall. He already had difficulty purchasing clothing in his size, in addition to being sick and having no family for support. What Kitty did for him was practical, but more importantly it brought him comfort at a time he needed it most.
