Edison is always upbeat in his approach to issues and follows through until they are resolved. His special understanding of the staff's personalities makes his educational activities/presentations interesting and easy to follow. He welcomes change and is available to step up to the plate when the OR is short staffed. He can wear different hats if necessary (scrub, circulate, educate, coordinate, team lead) and can troubleshoot just about any OR instrument and equipment in use.
To increase the morale, Edison encourages staff with positive announcements and acknowledges those who go over and beyond their work. He initiated and organized the OR Christmas party after not having one for several years. It was well attended. He initiated the OR shared governance group which finds ways to improve different aspects of the OR work conditions. On occasions, he leads the group in singing before the huddle when he senses staff blues. He has been at DeKalb for over 30 years and is an active member of The Philippine Nurses Association of America and The Philippine Nurses Association of Georgia. He is also an associate of the Philippine American Medical Association of Georgia and is one of the lead RNs in their biannual medical missions to the Philippines in charge of the education of local nursing personnel in the mission area. He is also part of the annual medical mission to Nigeria. Edison was the recipient of the Florence Nightingale award 2015, presented by the PNAGA. He also initiated and conducted the yearly PNAGA Christmas caroling at Perpetual Help Hospice to cheer up the terminally ill since 2008 when he was president of the PNAGA. It has since become an annual tradition.
