Betsy was my nurse the night I delivered my first child. Her shift began at 7:00 p.m. and my daughter was born at 9:39 p.m. By the time Betsy arrived, I was at the point in my labor where I was in a horrible amount of pain. I had an epidural, but it didn't take, and the contractions were so intense. Betsy really went out of her way to try to help me find ways to ease the pain of laboring. She seemed genuinely concerned with helping me and that meant a lot to me when I was so uncomfortable. Betsy also guided me through pushing and played a huge role in the delivery of my daughter! My little one came out very quickly, much faster than anyone expected, so the doctor didn't quite make it into the room in time. Instead, Betsy caught her as she came out and made her arrival.
In the emotional aftermath of having a baby, I was so happy to have Betsy as my nurse. She was kind, compassionate, and gentle in what was a very vulnerable time for me. She helped me get cleaned up and explained how to care for my wounds. The timeframe following delivery is messy, and a woman is exposed physically and emotionally, but I never felt uncomfortable or awkward with the state I was in. Betsy also did a fantastic job of caring for my little girl. I got to watch her give my daughter her first bath, her shots, her footprints, etc. She was so gentle and talked to her throughout the whole process. Betsy also made sure to include my husband throughout the laboring process and explained all questions we asked her. I could not have asked for a better nurse to be with me for the delivery of my first child. Betsy was awesome, and I am so grateful for everything she did for my family on the night we delivered. She definitely made a lasting impression on us. I only hope we are lucky enough to have her around the next time! A huge thanks to this kind and special woman, she is so great at what she does.
