I have spent almost 16 years working side by side with Liz and I can truly say that there isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't amaze me. Liz is an outstanding nurse, colleague, and friend to so many. Her kindness, connections with patients, families, and co-workers show in smiles and hugs. Recently, Liz called and made an appointment for an already discharged patient who was having difficulty doing it themselves. Liz's compassion, leadership and exceptional mentoring of all of our new nurses are just a few of her talents that have made a huge difference on our unit. 16 months ago, I officially became the clinical manager of 3 North, walking into a position, I will admit was a big undertaking, especially since I didn't have any ACMs. Liz looked at me and said, "take it, we need you and I will help." It is that commitment and tenaciousness that has been the constant in "our team" while she also continued to care for her frail, ill mother. Liz kept her word, rolling up her sleeves and moving forward in the direction that 3 North staff agreed we were headed. Liz splits her time with her patient care and filling in as an informal assistant handling the daily operations of the unit, giving all of us peace of mind, even when the chips are down and the stress is high. Twice this year I took a vacation. Liz took the reigns, she would call every day to check on the off shifts and handled any issues that arose. None of this is out of the ordinary for our great co-worker and friend who is extraordinary. Our patients and families, all of Liz's co-workers, and I know she is beyond exceptional.
