On the morning of his discharge, I spoke with a stroke survivor on the Rehab unit. He had a particularly difficult time dealing with his loss of function after his CVA, but he had also made terrific progress during his stay. The night before his discharge, Elizabeth combed through his chart and did not find evidence that the patient had been taught to do the injections he would need to do when he left the hospital. She worked with him to schedule a time early in the morning, gathered supplies, instructed the patient and let him practice on a piece of fruit until he felt comfortable. I told the patient Elizabeth recently earned her CRRN and he stated “it shows, she’s always so professional and so caring. She’s just wonderful.”
