MAJ Nutter is an outstanding, high energy, Certified-Nurse Midwife. She displays unparallel leadership, clinical, and academic skills. She is an excellent example of the ultimate advanced practice nurse, motivating patients and staff alike. MAJ Nutter believes in, and practices a holistic approach to childbearing. She believes in her patients, and her patients trust in her. She has given countless hours of her time, providing her expectant mothers, and the family unit, the tools they need to achieve the delivery they desire. MAJ Nutter has successfully headed and maintained the unmedicated childbirth and waterbirth program. This program has established a culture of safety and learning for our patient population in regards to the normalcy of birth. Since reviving the program, the midwifery service has assisted with over 10 successful unmedicated waterbirths for the year; this is 5 times more waterbirths than any prior year. MAJ Nutter also developed a 2-hour childbirth class for families interested in unmedicated childbirth options. This class is very popular with our patients. Because of her love for midwifery, and dedication to the community, more patients have reached their goal of a “natural birth.” I have seen her labor waterbirth patients through the night to successful delivery, continue to smile, and work an outpatient clinic through the day. In providing her services, MAJ Nutter has empowered many women who now recognize their personal strengths in persevering the challenges that can arise.
MAJ Nutter is an empowering mentor to staff. Many of the RNs on MNU seek her for insight and career progression questions. She takes the time to mentor the future of nursing. MAJ Nutter remains a seeker of higher goals and is pursuing her DNP as a student in the prestigious Frontier Nursing University. Because of her passion and expertise, and operating the only successful waterbirth program within the Department of Defense, MAJ Nutter has been requested to write the policy for waterbirth for the Department of Defense. Upon request, she selflessly changed her dissertation to concentrate on waterbirth delivery. MAJ Nutter walks the walk and talks the talk; and in doing so has given so much to her community. She has given strength to nursing and strength to patients. The motto for Nurse Midwifery is “with women for a lifetime.” MAJ Nutter is a flawless example.
