I brought my mother, who is 92 years old into your ER. Her blood pressure 223/80 and an abnormal EKG taken at her primary's office moments before. I knew she was in some kind of cardiac distress according to other symptoms that were evident for the next 6 + hours in the ER, she received wonderful compassionate care. At that point, the diagnosis was that she was going to have a pacemaker put in. She spent the next 6 days in the 4 South ICC unit. I wanted to commend and bring to your attention what Emily Vincent meant to our family. In the short time, we got to know her, we felt she was part of our family. Her knowledge, caring and dedication to her title as nurse goes beyond the job description. When my mother was being wheeled in for the procedure, I watched Emily stroke my mother's hair. It was very touching and caring. It was like she was comforting her own grandmother. She went out of her way to get food sent up to my mother at "off" times. She is very polite and has a quick wit and very funny. I also witnessed her helping other nurses with their patients when they were too busy. She is a team player. She is an attribute to this hospital and your unit. Our whole experience at NYP was a 10+. In this crazy world with so much negativity, I wanted to make sure Emily Vincent stands out and gets the credit she deserves. My mother is comfortably recuperating at my house in Long Island and is doing very well.
