Emma has been a NICU nurse since she transferred from the post partum and L/D in 2002. She is a very active member of the NICU's unit council, she is the newsletter editor and has been prompt in publishing the news and important information for our staff and other discipline. She is involved in all activities, projects and research the Council is undertaking and her passion as a nurse is very much evident by the many positive remarks we receive from the patient satisfaction survey. Emma is the everyday nurse who makes a difference in the lives of our fragile and vulnerable patients and their parents. She is one of our English and Spanish instructors for our discharge classes we offer weekly.
Emma Castillo is the NICU representative for the Breakfast of the Champion and also one of our ARCIS super-user. She is always willing to work when needed, she has a positive attitude that is contagious and has gone out her way to help staff members and parents alike. She extends her kindness and compassion to our parents in need. She just recently took a mother home after a mom attended her (Emma) discharge class to San Pedro so that this particular mom will not have to take 3-4 bus transfers in the evening to get home, an act that surely mirrors our mission.
She is our unsung hero and it is with great pleasure that I nominate Emma Castillo for the DAISY Award.
