My 22-year-old son was scheduled for a procedure of a stent removal. We have had our lives turned upside down by an automobile accident that would change our lives forever. My son was ejected from his vehicle and sustained many life-threateninginjuries. The manager of the Outpatient Cath Lab was our first introduction to the procedure that was going to take place.
My son is faced with many deficits and the care and compassion which was demonstrated by the manager and his nurse, Emmi Woomer was exceptional, as well as heartwarming. Of course with his deficits it made the whole process take a lot longer due to taking time to shave his face to obtain IV access. The trauma he sustained in the MVA has altered who he is and what he can sustain in regards to medical care. Even though Emmi had other patients to take care of she never altered her attention and outstanding care to my son. She took time to shave him for the procedure even though he can't tolerate care to his face in very small increments. She also called the IV team to obtain access which was also a simple procedure but was complicated by his deficits. Then as the anesthesiologist was at the bedside to obtain consents then realization the level of sedation that had been planned for this procedure would not be enough. This as well made the duration of this process even longer.
At no time was Emmi upset or frustrated, she just made my son the center of her focus and exuded not only professionalism in this whole process, but the care she provided was heartfelt and amazing. I have encountered many doctors and nurses on the journey and she stands out as an angel who was sent to provide my son with the best care she could and so supportive through all the bumps in the road that day. I just wanted everyone to know that her care provided me the strength to endure yet another medical procedure for my son. I want to express my thankfulness and gratitude for all she did for my son. The concern for his needs spoke volumes of the nurse she is. It was truly clear that her job is a vocation that she definitely displayed by her actions on that day. My world has been altered by this accident, but interactions such as this make every day a little better. A huge thanks to Emmi for all the love and compassion that exuded from her being.
