A co-worker writes:
Erin does our discharge teaching for all of our outpatients. She has taught up to 38 patients and families in one 10 hour day. She is very skilled at what she does, and is a mentor and resource for all of us. She displays endless patience and professionalism with all patients and families, answering all questions and making sure they understand home care. She collaborates with the surgeons, anesthesiologists and co-worker RN’s all day, every day to make sure the instructions are accurate and personalized for every single patient. She offers to assist patients with care when able, such as helping to bathroom or taking an IV out when primary RN is busy, to avoid having patient wait if ready for discharge. Although several of us have filled in when she is not here, she is the expert and primary resource for our department. Her quiet ways and calming presence have soothed many a patient and family.
Families often comment on how nice she is! And no matter how busy we get, she stays calm! She has stayed late many a night to finish important instructions. Erin always goes the extra mile. She identifies needs of the patient, for example she is now working on making a video to teach patients how to self- catheterize at home.
