Eva's patient J.O. recently lost his partner of many years and Eva noticed that he was sad and very quiet with the approaching holiday. Eva asked J.O. about his plans for Thanksgiving. He told her that he and his partner had a fun tradition of going to Atlantic City every year for Thanksgiving. They would enjoy a festive meal and play some of the games and come home late. But this year he had no one to celebrate with. His brother would be going to his wife's parents and would not be able to bring his brother. J.O. told Eva that he was going to close all his blinds, keep all of his lights off and would stay in bed all day until the day passed. He was not planning on eating anything that day special just some leftovers and his liquid supplement. He was going to wait for the day to pass.

Eva told him that she was going to come over and bring a Thanksgiving feast to him. He told her that she shouldn't bother he would be alright. Eva didn't listen and instead came over on Thanksgiving (her day off) and brought a big Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings, complete with dessert.

When she got there the blinds were closed and there were no lights on. Just as J.O. had said he was going to do. Eva though he might really not be home. But she rang the bell anyway and he came down to the door. He was happy to see her and was overjoyed at the delicious food that she had brought to his home. It was all homemade and she was still wearing her cooking apron. Eva stayed a little bit and J.O. was able to enjoy a festive holiday meal and some company on a day that could have been a long lonely day and a reminder that he was truly alone. Instead he was able to have a true day of Thanksgiving thanks to a homecare nurse who went above and beyond to help bring joy and comfort to another human being.
