Leadership: Fedelia is an excellent coach during a code, brilliant preceptor to new hires and a team player. She's willing to teach other staff members about medication drips, and use of equipment commonly used during codes. She is also been as one of the reliable pediatric emergency department resource nurses for the day shift. She's a commendable relief charge nurse on the 7am-3pm shift and does an admirable job evaluating care given by colleagues. She does an excellent job designating patients load based on acuity and staff proficiency in order to accomplish the task of expediting the patient flow in the pediatric emergency department.

Advocacy: Fedelia follows the protocol of the National Patient Safety Goals by following the independent double check on all high alert medications. When in doubt she questions MD orders appropriately to get clarification prior to administer the medication. She also observes the patients response to interventions and monitors for side effects of medication taking nothing for granted assuming the worse but preparing for best outcomes for her patients.

Clinical Competency: She's able to distinguish a critical patient from triage area when parents brought in an 11 year old MRCP (mentally retarded cerebral palsy) patient with a presentation of cyanotic, mottle skin, fever of 106. Fedelia intervened in a timely manner by involving the attending physician on duty, at the time Fedelia was very confident and calm during situations which require immediate interventions. Fedelia was able to administer antibiotics to the patient within the 30 minutes window of treating a septic shock patient and anticipate the providers next step in decreasing further compromise to the patient.

Accountability: She performs effectively in emergency situations when the emergency department physician requested an I-stat test to be done on a critical adult patient. She was not hesitant to walk over to the adult emergency department and appropriately intervene during the critical situation.

Interpersonal/Communication Skills: Has an impressive rapport with her colleagues and other professional staff members. She corresponds resourcefully with her supervisor and nurse manager regarding patient's issues and ways of improving patient's flows in the department. Fedelia has held down the fort in the pediatric emergency department during critical staff crisis without missing a day's work and never complaining during this crisis. Fedelia is not only our DAISY she is our shining star!!!
