She came in and introduced herself. Then she asked me questions just like all the other nurses had before her however, there was one question that stood out - one question that made me realize she really did care about providing the best care. She asked me about the skin disorder I had listed. First of all I wasn't in there for that, I was admitted for a very severe gallstone/pancreatitis issue! She wanted to know information about my skin disorder and just those moments I spent explaining to her and showing her parts of my lower leg that had it helped take my mind off the other serious issue. She said she had never seen the condition in real life and asked me questions that showed genuine interest in furthering her knowledge about the condition. But the best part came later when I honestly believe that had she not made astute observations about my personality my condition at the hospital would have worsened. I am normally very talkative, energetic (as a teacher this is very essential). She noticed that throughtout the shift I got more and more lethargic/sleepy. I was feeling low but I thought it was because I couldn't eat real food plus I was just coming to terms with how serious my condition was. (A pity party type of feeling.) The doctor had ordered NPO except ice chips/meds. I am very glad that she noticed my change in personality because she had someone test my blood sugar and sure enough it had dropped to 50. She immediately got on the phone w/the doctor, came back a few minutes later with glucose and put it in my IV. Her attention to detail and passion for real hands-on learning makes her one of the best - A JEWEL of FIRST Quality! I hope you hire more like Haiwen.
