My 7-month-old daughter was in the hospital for repair of a meningocele on her head. Haley did an excellent job anticipating our needs even before we knew them. She had asked the doctors in the morning while they were doing rounds if I could take my baby for a stroller ride, anticipating that we would need a distraction. She also was an amazing advocate for my baby. She requested that one of the IVs be removed so that my daughter could play (that request was denied but she did ask on our behalf). When we discussed my daughter's poop with one of the doctors on the floor, she voiced her opinion against Miralax based on what she knew of my daughter and knew that she wasn't going to easily swallow a big bulky drink (she's breastfed). She also worked to find a way to get my daughter to take Tylenol easier. I felt like Haley was in our corner every step of the way and looking out for our needs even before we knew we needed it. I also have to commend Children's for having a culture where nurses can speak out and give their opinion. It's the nurses spending the most time with the patients and identifying factors specific to each patient. Sometimes certain things are medically necessary but sometimes there are other options based on the needs of a particular child.
