I have pancreatic cancer and, as you can imagine, dealing with this situation has been emotionally and practically challenging. I have had 2 admissions to Gervis Pearson ward. On the first admission, Hannah has had a significant input into my care both during my darkest times when I can be quite resistive and unpleasant and during my recovery. At all times I have felt understood, accepted and heard as a person rather than a diagnosis. Hannah treated me as an individual without judgment. She always had a welcoming smile and a kind compassionate manner.

I am an ex-lecturer in nursing and I feel Hannah epitomizes the best of nursing. Her approach to me exemplifies what nursing aspires to be. Her clinical skills are meticulous and precise. But also as important as conducting the procedures, she has paused the procedure to deal with me as a person when I have expressed distress or she has sensed a concern. I have always felt that Hannah has given me time to be heard as a person rather than an object on which to conduct procedures.
