The patient had a camping tent set up over her hospital bed because she loved camping. We were unable to adjust the bed without disturbing the tent. The patient's father did not want the patient to wake up or feel anything during the IV placement and requested that the patient receive additional sedation prior to placing. This was at 1630 which was the scheduled time for Hart to leave. Hart waited patiently for the pharmacy to bring the medications to the floor. After the patient was medicated, Hart crawled into the tent with the patient and placed the IV in a calm and composed manner. As we were leaving the room, the father came up to us with tears in his eyes and expressed his gratitude. In all of my years of nursing, this is one of the most extraordinary and compassionate acts that I have witnessed and I am proud to call Hart a team member and a friend.
