Haydie is the night shift charge RN in the ICU. The morning shift charge RN forgot her cell phone after work and asked Haydie if she would bring it down to the main lobby. She did not get to deliver the cell phone right away, because a member/patient asked her for help to deliver a baby in the parking lot. Haydie did not hesitate to help deliver the baby safely and wrap the baby in her jacket. She notified the ED to come to assist mom and baby, assuring they were in safe hands. Haydie courageously went out of her way to help someone in need and is an inspiration to nurses. She is a hero.

Haydie helped deliver a baby in the Kaiser parking lot. Haydie was flashed down by a gentleman stating that his wife was having a baby. Haydie noticed that the baby was not breathing. She stimulated the baby, causing the baby to breathe. Haydie took charge of the situation. She did not hesitate to help the parents and baby in a scary situation.

I work day shift and Haydie works night shift. My shift ended and I left the unit. I forgot my cell phone in the unit. Haydie offered to bring my phone to the parking lot for me. As Haydie walked down to the front entrance, she saw a mother about to have her baby in the front hospital entrance. No other hospital personnel was present so Haydie delivered the baby. She used her own jacket to catch the baby. Haydie said the baby did not cry initially but after she slapped the baby's back couple times, the baby then cried. As an ICU nurse, we don't deliver babies very often. I felt that Haydie was a hero for what she did to save a baby's life.
