Hazel’s passion for the mentally ill, and for people in general, shows in the way she cares for her patients and the other staff. She treats people with respect and dignity. Hazel was quickly promoted in the VMU to one of the night shift charge nurses. This role is especially difficult in the VMU because the charge nurses always have a patient assignment in addition to their charge nurse duties and being a resource to other staff.
Here are a couple of things the staff had to say about Hazel:
“Hazel never has a bad word to say about anyone. She has a positive attitude and is always willing to help.”
“Hazel is a creative thinker and a dedicated worker. Her personal commitment to quality is obvious in everything she does. She accommodates her patients and peers even when it is not easy or convenient. Her commitment to excellence inspires others to push past mediocrity. We recognize and truly appreciate her dedicated efforts.”
“Hazel is one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. Often times our patients in the VMU feel like they are ‘less than,’ they expect to be treated like outcasts. Hazel treats them like family.”
Fun fact about Hazel: Hazel loves interior design. She volunteered to design and decorate the break room in the VMU, giving all of the staff a beautiful place to relax on their break.
