8SE Oncology is a new clinic to UWMC, and Holly Tomashek has been instrumental in ensuring its successful transition from SCCA to UWMC. Holly is a leader and role model for her fellow RNs, managing from a strengths-based leadership model. She is a compassionate patient advocate who understands the unique needs of oncology patients.
As an RN3, Holly helped to get the new clinic started at 8SE. Whether she is ordering supplies, working on interdepartmental matters, participating in staffing interviews or handling patient phone calls, she pays attention to the little details that make a difference. She is a wonderful teacher and mentor to her staff, many of whom are new to the service. Holly recognizes everyone's strengths and builds her team around them. Her dedication is a testament to how successfully this clinic has run since we started seeing patients here in April.
Through all of her duties, Holly has never lost sight of her patients. She is always a calm, knowledgeable, and supportive care team member for them. She can reassure an anxious surgical patient, provide hope and encouragement for a new chemotherapy patient, and she always listens and responds to her patients' needs.
Holly exemplifies the UWMC mission and values, and the "Patients Are First" care plan. It is an honor for us to work with her. She is an outstanding role model and leader. She is very deserving of this award!
