Jackie was my charge nurse, and from the moment I arrived, I felt extreme compassion on her end. She knew exactly what I needed and when. Whether it be someone to talk to, someone to coerce me out of my room, someone to share with, or someone to leave me alone when I needed it, she did it. Even when she was charge nurse of the unit, she was never too busy for my care. I felt a calmness during the doctor rounds if she was present. She gave me the courage and strength, through her personal stories and compassion, to move forward, to be strong, and know that I was never alone. Sometimes she just listened. During one terrifying moment on the unit, Jackie was right there to comfort me. While I didn't talk much to other patients, I did hear other patients discuss how they 'hoped they had Jackie for their nurse.' What greater compliment is that? It takes a very special nurse to make those on B6/5 feel strong again. I am much stronger now and living life again, and loving life. I feel Jackie has so importantly impacted my life in a positive way that she truly deserves the DAISY Award.
