I truly believe that Jackie saved my aunt's life and I am deeply grateful to her.My aunt came in with a very serious line infection. She has ESRD, but has managed it independently for years. Soon after she was admitted, she became very weak, confused and shaky. Always thinking, Jackie got her MD to order a CT and MRI to check for a stroke.
Luckily those results came back negative, but my aunt was still very confused, weak and shaky. Someone (another smart nurse) figured out that one of the pain medications administered to my aunt may have affected her cognition and caused the shakiness. With that understanding, Jackie made a lot of calls and pushed very hard to get dialysis as soon as possible so that the drug that was harming her could be dialyzed out of her system.
She made many calls and persuaded many people to get my aunt the testing and temporary line placement she needed to get dialysis that next day, including calling the MD to get dialysis orders for her.
In addition to the care she provided to save her body, she was also very kind and compassionate to her, seeing to the needs of her emotionally and spiritually. She treated her like family and treated her family (my aunt's family) with love and compassion as well. My aunt was terrified and thought she was going to die. I truly believe she would have died if she had not had Jackie as her nurse. Jackie inspires me; she is an exemplary nurse, and I will always be grateful to her, from the bottom of my heart.
