I witnessed Jaime Tomanovich provide exceptionally skilled and compassionate nursing care to a 37-year-old patient with a burst brain aneurysm. The patient arrived at the hospital with a GCS of three and soon after emergent intubation began seizing. A stat head CT revealed a large brain bleed that was a suspected burst aneurysm. When I got there to evaluate the patient for neurosurgery, Jamie was able to effectively communicate a detailed report of events that helped confirm that patient's diagnosis. When the decision was made to transfer the patient for emergent surgery, she worked quickly to administer life-saving medication before the patient's transport. She was in constant communication with myself, the pharmacy, and ED staff to provide safe and effective care for this critically ill patient. She did not waiver in her nursing care and showed true leadership and expertise in her field when managing the patient's ventilator, multiple IV drips, and facilitating a transfer.
The patient was transferred to another facility within 40 minutes of the patient's initial diagnosis, where she underwent an aneurysm clipping. The next day, the patient miraculously woke up and started following commands. She was extubated post-op day 3 and is improving every day. Because of Jaime's exceptional care, the patient will regain some function and have a preserved quality of life; something that very rarely happens for patients with burst brain aneurysms. Thank you, Jamie.
