Jamie Elsener-Sharp is dedicated to ensuring quality, safe patient care, and always puts the patient and family at the center of everything she does. Here is just one example to show her commitment:
I sat in the nurses’ station late one afternoon and overheard a conversation Jamie was having on the telephone. She had recently discharged a patient, in which she spent a great deal of time educating the patient and his wife about discharge instructions and medications. After arriving home, the patient’s wife called back up to speak to Jamie regarding medications. She stated she did not have all of the medications that the patient needed and was asking for help to obtain them. Jamie pulled out the chart and proceeded to review each and every medication with her. She reviewed every medication by generic and trade name, explained what it was for, and how often to take it. She waited as the patient’s wife got out each bottle and verified with the discharge instructions and again with Jamie. After a long conversation, Jamie hung up the phone and contacted the patient’s pharmacy. She reviewed the list with the pharmacist and confirmed which medications the patient had previously been taking, when they were filled, and how many of each they received. Jamie then called the patient’s wife back, and again reviewed each and every medication with her, several times, having her locate each medication as they discussed it. At the end of the conversation, she assured her that she would be available for more questions over the next few hours, and that she would return in a couple of days if she needed anything, and concluded by giving her personal work assigned phone number. Throughout the entire event, Jamie remained calm and cheerful, always focusing on the patient’s needs. Jamie provides this level of care to every one of her patients. She does this very quietly and efficiently therefore it usually goes unnoticed. However, I am sure her patients notice with each interaction she has with them.
