The following Associate has been Nominated for the DAISY Award:

Jamie Haggerty RN, CCRN

Statement:

Jamie has been a CHOC employee since 1989. She began her career as an NICU nurse and transitioned to the PICU. Through the years, Jamie has cared for a multitude of critically ill children. As a previous fellow associate nurse, I recall with admiration, the care and compassion Jamie showed with each patient as if they were her own. She has always struck me a person who will go above and beyond, assuring that each child has their needs met in the best way possible.

The care and compassion Jamie exudes flows over into her role as a PICU Charge Nurse. This is a role that Jamie has occupied for the past 2 years. It is in this role that Jamie is active in assisting in growing and mentoring each associate nurse to provide excellent care that each child deserves. Jamie tackles this position with a "can do" attitude to assure quality care is delivered. She makes herself present in the unit and is available to anyone who needs her assistance. The nurses know that Jamie is a leader and will rely on her years of expertise, experience and knowledge to assist in problem solving. It is within this role that Jamie has grown to become a leader in the PICU. She has successfully managed extraordinarily, extremely busy days which consists of multiple admissions, multiple transfers, emergent procedures and situations within the PICU. All the while, Jamie remains calm and in control of each situation. As a charge nurse, Jamie remains in constant communication with the attending physicians, transport team, and management team in the PICU. She has done an outstanding job in her role as a PICU charge nurse. Recently, the director of the PICU, Dr. Anas, commended Jamie on a job well done.

As a fellow charge nurse, I would like Jamie to be recognized for her years of experience and the role model which she has become. This past year Jamie has validated her critical care knowledge and expertise by acheiving her CCRN certification. She is also a member of the Clinical Practice Council which serves to increase the strength and autonomy of the nursing profession through group decision making regarding patient care issues.

To be nationally recognized as a Daisy nurse is one of the most well respected awards that any nurse can acheive. I sincerely believe that Jamie deserves this recognition. .
