Not only is Jamie excellent clinically, but she exhibits true caring and concern for her patients and families. I want to recognize her for her work with one particular patient and his mother. The patient was a neonatal infant overflow from the NICU. He was having difficulty with temperature regulation and was Failure to Thrive. He was in an isolette and had a rigorous feeding schedule. His mother was hearing impaired, with some degree of MR and developmental delay. She had difficulty grasping concepts, following directions, lacked in self-care and body hygiene, and had extremely limited financial resources and support systems. She asked endless questions and needed seemingly continuous nursing support. In the 24 hours that Jamie took care of this patient and his mother, she exhibited patience, caring, concern, and compassion. She did intensive teaching and then re-teaching and more re-teaching. She was ever so kind and gentle with this baby's mother. Jamie made inquiries and suggestions to mom regarding care for herself and her personal hygiene. She secured food for her. She held the baby to give mom breaks. Every time the call bell rang out from that room, and it was at least 3-4 times per hour if not more, Jamie went in with a smile on her face. She exhibited an endless amount of patience. It really was a wonderful thing to bear witness to. Jamie exemplified all of the values of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and I am proud to work alongside her.
