Nurse Jamie deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond her job to comfort me during postpartum. I truly believe that she was there because God knew I needed someone exactly like her to take care of me throughout the situation that unfolded.
After an unplanned C-section, my body went a bit haywire. I spent several days in postpartum undergoing EKG's, heart echo's, Doppler's, chest x-rays, blood work, all while having a brand new life to learn to care for and try to breastfeed as well as trying to let my own body heal. My mother has always had a saying that "everything seems worse at night" and for me this would have rang true if Nurse Jamie wasn't our night shift nurse for 3 nights. She cared for my weak and aching body, she taught me tips for breastfeeding, took the time to get to know my husband and me, as well as recognized when I needed a break for sleep and took our finicky little newborn to the nursery. But she didn't just take our son to the nursery; she would comfort him and hold him, all the while having other duties and responsibilities to attend to. She knew how much my body needed to rest and she would keep him in the nursery as long as she could hold him off between feedings.
Her compassion, humor and relaxed manner kept me calm (or as calm as possible) throughout the nights spent at the hospital. I was so sad that we didn't get a chance to say goodbye or thank her in person. I've told everyone about our experience with her and they are just so humbled. It brings me to tears to think about her sacrificing her time to hold and comfort our baby, try to keep him in the nursery for my sanity and taking outstanding care of me as I started to recover. I am completely humbled and grateful for her and the great nurse that she is.
All the nurses we came in contact with were great, but Jamie was by far one of the BEST!
