Jane Wang made me feel at home in the hardest place possible, a hospital setting. From the time I was brought over to my room, her compassion, warmth, professionalism and dedication to her craft were on display in the care she gave me. For the time I was here, she made me forget about my pain and forget that I was inside a hospital. Her humor was contagious and put me at ease. She was patient in explaining every procedure before it was given to me, every medication and answered every question that I had. She is definitely in this field for the love of her craft and those under her care. The transplant unit is a delicate one because of the seriousness of what people are going through, but nurses like Jane make the stay here that much more pleasant and much more bearable. Thank you Jane, for being so kind and wonderful not just to me, but to all my friends and family! You truly are one of a kind!

I was admitted for a small bowel obstruction. My symptom was extreme stomach cramps and nausea. If you have ever experienced it, you know the pain is so bad you cannot ignore it! I guess that is God's way of making sure you got to the hospital and get treatment to fix the problem. I read in some paperwork from the hospital, it can be fatal if not dealt with! A CT scan was run and that showed the bowel obstruction and a possible hernia on the intestine, which I was told might require surgery. My background is that I was diagnosed with stage III C ovarian cancer two years ago. I had 6 weekly chemo sessions to shrink the tumor and "clean up" the fluid in my abdomen, which would make the necessary surgery much more effective. After the third chemo, the tumor had shrunk by 90%! What a miracle from God! Then I had a complete hysterectomy. Upon being released from the hospital, I had extreme stomach cramps, went to the hospital and was told I had a small bowel obstruction, which was cured with 7 days in the hospital. Now fast forward to a year later. At Ronald Reagan Hospital, they gave me morphine as needed for the pain. I don't like taking drugs, but the pain was so bad I was grateful for the morphine. An "NG" tube was put up my nose and down my throat to remove the bile and acids that can build up since the intestine is blocked. If you have ever had that NG tube, it is no fun! I think it was on Saturday night that the shift change gave me a nurse named, Jane Wang.
Jane was so caring and efficient. She took good care of me. I told her of my faith in Jesus Christ as my savior and she said she is also a believer. It was good to have that in common. Jane told me to do leg lifts as much as possible in bed. They are easy. You lift and bend the knee of one leg and hold it into your chest. Then you put that leg down and do the same with the other leg. I did ten then rested and did fifteen, rested and did twenty, etc. until I was up to fifty. I did fifty at a time as much as I could. Jane said you have to keep doing them and it will help the bowel obstruction. Exercise (walking) also helps as several nurses told me, so I tried to take three brisk walks a day on the eighth hospital floor. I was amazed at how fast the leg lifts and exercise improved my condition! First the pain stopped the next day. Then on Sunday night, I finally passed gas and then had a bowel movement! They removed the NG tube and I had a liquid diet on Monday and a solid diet on Tuesday and when home on Tuesday. I am so very grateful to God that He put Jane there to take care of me and for her loving care. I believe she saved me, by the grace of God, from surgery!
