Janet Lations was nominated by the husband of a patient who required numerous admissions due to post-surgical complications.
"Janet took care of my beloved wife as if she was her own mother. She has hugged both of us many times when we were down. She brought my wife downstairs in a wheelchair and played the piano for us, then she brought my wife outside for some fresh air and a short walk. That did wonders."
She left notes letting him know what his wife might need when he returned to the hospital each morning, reassured the couple every step of the way, kept them well-informed about the plan of care, and established a personal connection with the patient with conversations about common interests.
