As an employee of Nemours, I was recently given the opportunity to view institution from the other side as a parent when my daughter was recently admitted to PICU. While I was impressed with the whole unit I was particularly impressed with one nurse who used what little free time she had to stop in and talk to this teenager as if she were an equal and made a very impressionable connection at a time in her life when she really needed it most. There is excellent care for the body which I have no doubt she received from all associates but Janine bothered to make that additional aspect of emotional care an important priority. At 17 life is hard all the way around and seeing Jeanine reach out to her in quiet times is something that could easily go unnoticed in one method of "evidence based medicine", Some small gestures with large impact cannot be entered into flow sheet.

I think that this nurse deserves to be recognized because of the comfort she brings to her patients. On March 22nd I was admitted to the intensive care unit. While I was there Jeanine made feel at ease by just talking to me like a normal person. At such a hard time in my life with the feeling that everyone was now judging me she asked me, “How I was doing”? What was up? Just like you would talk to any 17 year old & it made me feel great, which is exactly what I needed.
