Jeff took care of a patient who was homeless and whose plan was to discharge the next morning. The patient had no clothes of his own and was unsure what he would wear upon discharge. Jeff was spotted near the elevators in his scrubs, well after his scheduled work hours. He attempted to make a quick, subtle, entrance and exit as he humbly avoided drawing attention to himself. It was not discovered until later that Jeff visited his patient and "gifted" him with seemingly hundreds of dollars' worth of clothes!
The patient approached me to cut the tags off his brand-new clothes that had just been delivered. It was then that the patient shared with me about what had happened, and I realized why Jeff was here. Jeff had gone out and immediately purchased our patient a new wardrobe that included pants, shirts, a winter jacket, a nice big backpack, new Nike tennis shoes, and more! Jeff didn't do this to win the praise of others, but as a selfless act to make sure somebody felt loved, valued, and cared for.
As the patient shared what Jeff had done for him, he fought back tears and was in total disbelief. It was evident that he probably never received kindness like this before. Jeff has a generous heart and deserves to be recognized for his selfless acts of kindness. This act of compassion truly changed this man's life.
