... Wellstar Health System had received a patient in cardiac arrest from a local same day surgery center. The patient had not had his scheduled surgery but was in the preop area when he suddenly had a cardiac arrest. Upon transfer to Kennestone CCU, he was intubated and the decision to initiate post cardiac arrest hypothermia was made. The patient has a wife, two sons and a "huge" church family. For the next three days the patient remained intubated and hypothermia therapy was performed. Jeffrey spent a lot of time with the wife and the patient in ensuring they understood all the therapies and plan of care. Jeffrey was assigned this patient the next 3 days. Each day he built a stronger, more trusting, compassionate relationship.

Jeffrey built such a strong bond with family at one point they stated, "Thank you for being with me and taking care of me". Two days after Jeffrey had been with the patient, the outlook became even worse and the family needed to make decisions to remove from Life Support. When Jeffrey heard this, he came into CCU (on his day off) to support wife and rest of the family. Jeffrey spent several hours with the family during this difficult time. Each family member praised Jeffrey for what he was and had become to them.

This is an example of the excellent nurse Jeffrey is and the passionate care he provides to his parents and families. He is top notch and deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond. He exemplifies the Extra-ordinary.
