Jeniffer is an amazing nurse and always has a positive attitude. Both her co-workers and patients adore her. She is an integral staff member in the ICU, active in many ICU projects and constantly tries to better the unit. She is also active as a member of the Professional Nurses Association, spending countless hours assisting with the association’s many projects. Jeniffer is a mentor to many, including myself. Whenever I have any questions or problems, I look to her to help me find the answers. I was walking by a room one day and saw her sitting next to her patient’s bed. This patient had just had surgery and had a new colostomy. Jeniffer spent the time with him watching videos on how to care for it once he got home. She answered all his questions and the patient stated that he was now comfortable taking care of himself at home. I heard the relief in his voice and saw it in his body language. This interaction of hers reminded me how important nurses are in educating our patients, as our jobs do not stop when they leave the hospital. We should do as much as we can to help their continuing recovery at home, and in this fast-paced unit, I sometimes forget that. Jeniffer makes me want to be a better nurse. She is the definition of exceptional!
