I was recently a patient at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. During that time, I received the most compassionate, kind and thoughtful care from Jenni Jacobs, Registered Nurse.
Before I begin to tell you why Jenni is a true DAISY Nurse, I will let you know a little bit about myself, so you can truly understand how amazing this nurse is. I have had over thirteen operations in my 56 years of life. When I was 26 years old, I had my gallbladder removed. Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with Bell's palsy. It was so severe, I lost all hearing in my left ear and was left with only 1% hearing capacity in my right ear. Oftentimes, when people realize I am deaf, they shout at me, "Can you hear me?!" I hate that. I appreciate when people treat me with respect and kindness. That's where Jenni comes in, she is my Angel.
I have had many medical procedures, operations, and hospital stays. Up until now, not one nurse has been in my room to welcome me when I arrived. As I rolled into my room from the OR, I was pleasantly surprised to see Jenni waiting for me, with a smile on her face. I knew right then and there, she was special. She was so kind and compassionate. Rather than yell, "Can you hear me?," she brought her computer over to my right side so I could hear.
The next day, I was in excruciating pain after having a kidney stone removed. I seriously thought I was going to die! Jenni was there to calm my anxiety, reassure me and help me get through my pain. She was at my side more than she was away. She worked so hard to control my pain. Jenni did everything she possibly could to make me feel better; she even held my hand and washed my face. I have never, in my life, received care like the care she provided to me. During my worst moments, she even brought me lavender, which I love and from now on, I will always think of her when I smell it. I wished she didn't have to go home at the end of the day. I cannot thank you enough for what she did for me. At the end of her shift, Jenni came back to my room to say goodbye; I was so grateful, I hugged her and cried.
All these words cannot capture how truly thankful I am! I think Jenni needs to understand that she is great and deserves to know it.
