I would imagine that it would be rare for a night shift nurse in PICU to be nominated for an award, but that just shows how Jennifer stands out with her excellent care. Jennifer demonstrated a strong work ethic with a gentle, quiet spirit. Jennifer was very observant. She discovered that my daughter's catheter was leaking and had compromised the bedding. She immediately got my daughter cleaned and linens changed. Shortly thereafter, my daughter had a long bout with loose stools. Jennifer got her cleaned up repeatedly and always had a smile on her face. When I would apologize, Jennifer showed compassion by saying my daughter could not help it; it was from the IV antibiotics.
One early morning, a resident came in and began to remove a pain pump from my daughter's hip. My daughter started to panic, but Jennifer began to talk to her and describe each step the intern was doing. Jennifer instantly calmed my daughter.
Jennifer would take note of our needs and fill them before I ever had a chance to ask. Upon waking in the early morning, I would find a freshly made cup of Sprite (what my daughter preferred) waiting. Jennifer always added the personal touch of introducing herself at the beginning of her shift and coming to tell us goodbye when her shift was over. Jennifer embodies all the qualities that make an exceptional nurse!
