Jennifer always goes above and beyond to help her patients, even after they have left her unit they come back to seek help from her because they know she is a caring nurse who would do anything to help.
Jennifer had a family member of a former patient that came looking for help from her because the patient and his family were from another country and the immigration office would only give them a 3-day visa to stay in the US. The family had spoken with some people during the day and received a letter asking for an extension. There were some paperwork issues and the papers would not be valid so the family members were at a loss of what do. Jennifer decided to call the immigration office to try to get an extension for the family to stay throughout the patient's remaining surgeries since they would be responsible for taking care of the patient after he leaves the hospital. The first office she called, said they would not grant the family an extension, but that did not discourage Jennifer. She continued to call two other offices until she was able to get ahold of someone that could help. At this time, it was late in the evening and they could not do anything but she was able to get a contact number of someone that may be able to help this family. With the help of the social worker during the day they were able to get ahold of the immigration office who collected their information and would work trying to help this family. The next evening the immigration office and Jennifer would try to contact one another back and forth until they were able to get ahold of each other. Jennifer spoke with the office and explained the situation and it was a waiting game after that. Today, we found out that the mother and sister were allowed a 10-day extension to get the patient through his surgeries.
Jennifer exemplifies the values of UMC and this shows that service truly is her passion.
