We have a patient who has been with us for over 40 days. When she came to us, she was very ill, suddenly without a home or vehicle. She was depressed and frustrated with her current predicament and at times quite difficult with the staff.
Jessica formed a relationship with her, and from that relationship, a great bond. We have seen this patient improve both physically and emotionally, and I believe that Jessica has been the biggest force behind the positive change for this patient.
The patient's only belongings were in large trash bags and had been stored here since a previous admission. Jessica bought the patient new pajamas, socks, undergarments, and shirts. She even bought her laundry detergent so that she can wash them.
I asked the patient to tell me in her own words, what the relationship with Jessica has meant to her. Here is what she said, "Jessica always listens to what I have to say and offers me good advice. She encourages me to look forward to the future. She has helped me face and get over some of my fears and phobias, such as my hospital gown phobia. She has encouraged me to take better care of myself. I like to put on make-up, wash and dry my hair with the hairdryer, and try to look pretty. Jessica means the world to me!"
Jessica shows great care and compassion with all of her patients, all of the time. I consistently have reasons to praise her from what I observe, notes from her peers as well as my conversations with her patients. Thank you, Jessica, for all that you do to go above and beyond for your patients.
